Backfilling

 

Not a ton to report this week. They are working on backfilling. They have to backfill the garage with compactable soil and will then pour the slab in the garage. They also have to fill the areas where we will have our front porch and back patio with the compactable soil but the rest of the stuff can be backfilled with regular soil. Here are some pictures of the progress. 





You can't really tell from this picture above, but there is quite a slope down from the house into the back yard and I'm going to have to figure out how to landscape that...




The weather was spring-y and crappy this last week so I thought the blue sky was a nice one to end on. The weather is supposed to change from 50's and rainy to the 70's and sunny come April so we are looking forward to that! This last picture is the most recent one from earlier today.

Here we go again!

Trusses arrived today! This was the first of two loads! That's a lot of trusses. This week, in preparation for the trusses the crew came out for a few days to get some of the upstairs done that didn't need the truesses. This is looking from the great room into the kitchen and above the kitchen and front room we have some bedrooms.  They started the staircase and I noticed that under the landing there was A TON of wasted space. See above and below.  I asked our builder about in and she said she'd talk with the crew.  The steel beam arrived for the garage. It is very big. The crew finished the stairs and opened it up BIG TIME! I was super happy about this. It increased the storage in our house dramatically. I'm six feet tall and can walk into the farthest back part of this closet standing straight up. IT IS AWESOME!!! More closet. Where the ladders are stored is about 6 feet tall! Slow and steady

Small but steady changes. The crane came back this week and put up a few trusses over the garage but overall, not a lot of externally visible changes, but some small things were done. The timbers for the porch are all mostly in place but I'm told that getting a 4:12 roof to line up with an 8:12 roof is pretty tough and that is what is happening over the porch. This is what they should be working on this week. Entry. Straight ahead will be the fireplace between those two windows.  Upstairs, this is one of the last areas that needs to be framed out. The crane will be coming back in this Thursday for the last of the trusses to be hung over the other half of the garage. Though not a lot of visible work was done on the outside of the house this week somethings have been going on inside. If you look at the picture above there is a 2x4 along the ground in the doorway. Wrapping up the framing - Plumbing and HVAC

  Garage is open and now that the framing is done they uncovered the windows. The final awnings were being built. Final set of awnings are now over the garage. Blue roofing material went on parts of the roof this week. I imagine it should be done by the end of next week.  We showed up and found a bunch of mechanical heating/cooling equipment in the garage early in the week. We changed the stain color for our beams to Dark Oak with the tongue and groove being stained at 50% of the same color so we have some contrast. More of the roof.
