More framing

Things are moving along. Not much to report, really. They have finished the first floor and I'm guessing they will start the second floor this week. They have put almost all of the plywood exterior walls up except for in a few places. This picture above is the fireplace flanked by windows in the great room.

Looking from the great room to the dinning room.

Looking from the kitchen to the great room. Dinning room to the left with the back door to the back patio.

They got to framing the walls of the garage.

Window from the garage looks out to Mount Garfield. Very pretty view.

Looking at the northwest corner of the house. The fireplace with the windows flanking it and the dinning room door can be seen where they look onto the back patio.

Front of the house. The entry is done but the garage is not quite there yet.

Front entry.

View from the dinning room.

This is where we are now. Just a few areas need to filled in with exterior wall plywood. They've got the white wrap around the entire back side and the rooms flanking the front entry way. Hopefully, we'll have more to report next week!

Here we go again!

Trusses arrived today! This was the first of two loads! That's a lot of trusses. This week, in preparation for the trusses the crew came out for a few days to get some of the upstairs done that didn't need the truesses. This is looking from the great room into the kitchen and above the kitchen and front room we have some bedrooms.  They started the staircase and I noticed that under the landing there was A TON of wasted space. See above and below.  I asked our builder about in and she said she'd talk with the crew.  The steel beam arrived for the garage. It is very big. The crew finished the stairs and opened it up BIG TIME! I was super happy about this. It increased the storage in our house dramatically. I'm six feet tall and can walk into the farthest back part of this closet standing straight up. IT IS AWESOME!!! More closet. Where the ladders are stored is about 6 feet tall! Landing on the staircase. Down this hall will be another bedroom and a loft and my music roo...

Slow and steady

Small but steady changes. The crane came back this week and put up a few trusses over the garage but overall, not a lot of externally visible changes, but some small things were done. The timbers for the porch are all mostly in place but I'm told that getting a 4:12 roof to line up with an 8:12 roof is pretty tough and that is what is happening over the porch. This is what they should be working on this week. Entry. Straight ahead will be the fireplace between those two windows.  Upstairs, this is one of the last areas that needs to be framed out. The crane will be coming back in this Thursday for the last of the trusses to be hung over the other half of the garage. Though not a lot of visible work was done on the outside of the house this week somethings have been going on inside. If you look at the picture above there is a 2x4 along the ground in the doorway. This is how they framed the whole house.  It seems that this week they've been cutting and removing the 2x4 on the th...

Foundation Prep

The soil on our lot was not great for a foundation so we had to dig a deep hole and then back fill it with soil that can compact well enough to support the house. We had to put 3 feet of backfill in! We watched them bring load after load of dirt and then smooth it out and compact it and then do it all over again until the full 3 feet were filled in. Last night I took my daughter up there after soccer practice and we walked around on the final grade. Footings and forms should be going up next week!
